Bulldogs beat Penguins 5-4 in O/T
2009-10-10Nick Allard was the hero for the visiting team in Lantz Friday night as he scored the winner 37 seconds into overtime to beat the hometown Penguins 5-4.
The Bulldogs opened the first period with two power play goals. First it was John MacLellan from Nick Allard and Guy Boudreau. Forty seconds later the Bulldogs struck again with Guy Boudreau converting on a play with Allard and Scott Chiasson. Three minutes later Randy Gilbert, on the power play, cut the Bulldogs' lead in two when he finished off a play with Matt MacLellan and Chris Pongoski.
With less than five minutes remaining in the first the Penguins tied the game at two when Chris Pongoski, from a difficult angle, put the puck behind Bulldogs' goaltender Kyle Williamson. Mark Power drew the only assist.
In the second both Williamson and Penguins' goalie Matt Pongoski were unbeatable and the score remained 2-2.
In the third Matt Anthony gave the Penguins the lead on an even strength goal from Randy Gilbert and Tyson Aalders. With less than five minutes to play John MacLellan, his second of the night, tied the game for Antigonish. Three minutes later the Bulldogs took the lead at 4-3 when Jimmy MacInnis scored, Guy Boudreau adding the only assist. The never-say-die Penguins, once again, tied the game with 47 seconds remaining on Justin Campbell's goal to send the game into overtime. Chris Pongoski was given an assist on the play.
